Kirwan Heights Volunteer Fireman's Association
is in our 82nd year of fire protection, emergency medical services, and community involvement. We have grown from an industrial fire department with only a few members in 1926 to one of the South Hills leading Fire and EMS agencies today. Our department was formed in 1926 by employees at Vanadium Steel Mill (currently Universal Stainless and Alloy). In 1930 the firefighters constructed a building at the corner of Vanadium Road and Washington Pike and this has been our home ever since. Our department has also been on the cutting edge of EMS since the early 1950's when we became one of the first patient transport departments in Allegheny County. We are proud of our past but also understand that we must prepare for the future.
